Michael Enright presents new US FDI in China report
Published 14 July 2017
On July 13, 2017, author Michael J. Enright presented findings from a ground-breaking new white paper report on the impact of US foreign direct investment (FDI) and US companies on China’s economy.
The event was held by the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong and attended by members across the government, business and academic sectors.
During the event, Professor Enright presented new data and analysis from the white paper report commissioned by the Hinrich Foundation and undertaken by Enright, Scott and Associates. The white paper, titled “The Impact of U.S. investment and U.S. companies on China’s Economy”, states that the impact of US investment on China’s economic growth and employment is far greater than previously estimated. He also presented findings on the overall impact of foreign direct investment on China’s economic development from his recent book, “Developing China: The Remarkable Impact of Foreign Direct Investment”.
Following the presentation, Professor Enright joined an experienced panel of executives whose companies –BASF, Rockwell Automation and KPMG— have made significant investments in China over the past 10 years. The panel, moderated by Hinrich Foundation Research Fellow Stephen Olson, discussed how FDI has the power to transform economies and the importance of developing mutually beneficial FDI relationships.
In addition to Enright, the event featured the following expert panelists:
- Genevieve Hilton, BASF
- Patrick Powers, Rockwell Automation
- Karmen Yeung, KPMG
- Stephen Olson, Hinrich Foundation (moderator)
