The 2024 Hinrich Foundation Award for Distinguished Reporting on Trade
Applications are now open for the Hinrich Foundation Award for Distinguished Reporting on Trade. This annual award by the National Press Foundation recognizes excellence in international trade reporting and is open to journalists worldwide. Apply by September 30.
The Hinrich Foundation Award for Distinguished Reporting on Trade honors outstanding journalism that deepens public understanding of international business and trade. The award is open to professional journalists whose work upholds the highest standards of journalism and is published by reputable news organizations, including print, broadcast, and digital media. Winners will receive a prize of US$10,000 and an invitation to participate in the National Press Foundation's annual awards event. Past winners include Bloomberg, The Wall Street Journal, Nikkei Asia, Associated Press, and the Washington Post.
Eligibility and submission requirements:
- Open to professional journalists whose work was published or broadcast between 30 September 2023 and 30 September 2024.
- A maximum of two entries allowed per news organization.
- All submissions must be submitted in English and include:
- Letter of support
- Work sample(s)
Deadline for submission: Monday, September 30, 2024.
2023 Awardees
Bloomberg News won the 2023 Hinrich Foundation Award for Distinguished Reporting on Trade for a series of stories on trade issues, including AI advancement, supply chain reshuffles, and decoupling from China.
2022 Awardees
Nikkei Asia won the 2022 Hinrich Foundation Award for Distinguished Reporting on for its coverage of how the pandemic, war, and US-China tensions disrupted global supply chains in 2022.
2021 Awardees
The Wall Street Journal won the 2021 Hinrich Foundation Award for Distinguished Reporting on Trade for its reporting on how Beijing used political power and leverage to give Chinese companies an edge in the global marketplace.
About the award
Since 2019, the Hinrich Foundation has been partnering with the National Press Foundation to honor excellence in international trade reporting.
The award is open to any professional journalist whose work exemplifies the highest standards of journalism and is published by a reputable news organization. This includes print, broadcast and digital journalists.
It carries a US$10,000 prize and the winner participates in NPF’s annual awards event. The jury for this award is comprised of distinguished journalists.
